Tranmere Rovers kicked off their 2025/26 League Two home campaign in style with a resounding 4-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town at Prenton Park. Under the guidance of manager Andy Crosby, who took charge earlier this year, Tranmere lined up in a 3-4-2-1 formation and delivered a performance that will give fans plenty of optimism for the season ahead.
Coming into the match, Tranmere were looking to improve on last season’s 20th-place finish, and they certainly made a statement. The opening exchanges were lively, with both sides probing, but it was Tranmere who seized control. Taylan Harris opened the scoring in the 19th minute, finishing from close range after good work from Charlie Whitaker. Just three minutes later, Josh Davison doubled the lead with a composed finish, assisted by Nohan Kenneh.
Shrewsbury struggled to respond, and Tranmere’s midfield, marshalled by Richard Smallwood, kept the visitors at bay. The second half saw Shrewsbury reduced to ten men after Will Boyle received a second yellow card, and Tranmere took full advantage. Omari Patrick made it 3-0 with a stunning strike from outside the box in the 74th minute, before substitute Kristian Dennis rounded off the scoring in the 88th minute, finishing off a cross from Patrick.
This emphatic win gives Tranmere a perfect start to the new season and sets a positive tone after a difficult previous campaign. The team’s recent form has been mixed, but this result will boost confidence as they look to climb the table under Crosby’s leadership. Notably, this was the first meeting between Tranmere and Shrewsbury in recent years, and the Rovers made it one to remember for the home faithful.
With a new manager at the helm, a fresh tactical approach, and a dominant opening-day display, Tranmere fans will be hoping this is a sign of things to come.
