Tranmere story

David Hickson was an English centre-forward born in Salford and raised in Ellesmere Port. He began with Ellesmere Port Town before joining Everton in 1948, later representing Aston Villa and Huddersfield Town, returning to Everton, and crossing Stanley Park to play for Liverpool.

After spells with Cambridge City and Bury, Hickson joined Tranmere Rovers in 1962, becoming one of the small group of footballers to represent all three senior Merseyside clubs. He later worked as player-manager of Ballymena United and continued in non-league football. In retirement he remained closely associated with Everton, including work as a Goodison Park tour guide. Hickson died in July 2013.
