Andy Thorpe

Stockport-born defender Andy Thorpe came through Stockport County’s youth system and became the club’s record appearance maker, with 555 appearances in all competitions across two spells. Between those spells he represented Tranmere Rovers, before returning to Edgeley Park and appearing in the 1992 Football League Trophy final at Wembley.

Thorpe later played in Australia for Morwell Falcons and returned to English non-league football with Witton Albion, Macclesfield Town, Chorley and Radcliffe Borough; he also made a brief Football League return with Doncaster Rovers. He subsequently worked as a physiotherapist in football.
