Archie Clarke

Archibald William Clarke was an English wing-half born in Shoreham, Kent. His career included Brentford, Arsenal, Luton Town and Everton before he joined Tranmere Rovers in 1936. He helped Everton win the 1931–32 First Division title and later captained Tranmere’s 1937–38 Third Division North championship side.

Clarke became Gillingham manager in 1939 and served the club for almost two decades. He later had a brief spell as acting manager of Sheffield United before working as a scout.
